Modern-ish Style Home

Hey y'all,

This is a quick Sketchup Model I worked on over the weekend.  It started off with a traditional feel especially when i incorporated the pitched roof then i found myself leaning more to a modern style which by now you must have noticed is my favorite.

Artful combination of style tastes sets a design apart and definitely gives it more character, I think.  So I figured it did not look too clumsy or even confused.

I played around with some warm colour tones and slight change in material just to highlight specific elements of the exterior.

                                                        Ground Floor
When you step into the foyer of this home, you immediately marvel at the double ceiling.

                                                                                            Top Floor
The window-filled exterior gives you great views and and allows plenty of light inside.  In fact, I read that natural light is considered a human right by house-owners in Japan.  It should be for the entire human race, I think.

Having the master bedroom on the ground floor and the remaining bedrooms upstairs, maximizing in privacy.

The loft area upstairs overlooks the great room below and the study located at the front of the floor has a tray ceiling.

The main portion of the house has an open floor plan great for entertaining.  I like flexible spaces which flow into each other and it helps when you have movable furniture to add to that flexibility.

Marrying the indoors and outdoors also creates the illusion of a large space as well as allowing considerable amounts of sunshine to trickle in. Sliding windows and doors help minimize transitions between the inside and the outside.

The back-wall of the great room slides open to get you access to the outdoor entertaining spaces in the back, including the covered lanai with a summer kitchen.

A great lover of variety, I had loads of fun creating this model and especially the subtle play of materials.  See you on the next post. Cheers!

Karish.
