MINIMALIST ARCHITECTURE TIPS-When Less Is More
Hey y'all,
First time I came across Minimalist Architecture I was in such awe! I thought to myself, such simplicity, such flare. Since then, it has been my main go-to design style.
Its hard to admit that Minimalism has become quite popular over the years both as a design philosophy and as a way of life.
Minimalist design shows restraint, a careful pairing down and editing of spaces to get a place of clarity.
Here' a project I worked on not so long ago. The client initially had this particular house done in traditional style architecture; high-pitch roofs and all.
Therefore, the challenge was to transform it into a modern minimalist style home without necessarily altering the original plan.
These are some of the guidelines I used to achieve the whole look;
Simplicity in Form and Function
Many minimalist houses have a simple, straight-forward, efficient plan layout with stacked volumes of spaces. This creates clarity in plan where the spaces are predictable and uncomplicated. Also, punched openings for doors and windows punctuate the facade.
Uncomplicated Cladding and Wall Finishes
Using a simple continuous exterior cladding material easily provides visual appeal and articulation by expressing the physical characteristics of the material and their nature.
Clean, Open, Light-filled spaces
An open floor plan lets an abundance of light fill the space. Light-coloured wall surfaces, clean modern detailing, uncluttered spaces and a neutral colour palette gives spaces a calm interesting appeal.
Simple Landscaping
Minimalist landscaping does not necessarily mean removing all your furniture. Rather, choose furniture pieces that are; simple, clean and neutral coloured. These complement your yard rather than overpower it.
A Minimalist Garden
This is simply a carefully cultivated space with neutrally coloured planters and harmonious plantings. Using a streamlines colour scheme, in terms of the planters you use and your overall plant palette, always makes for a perfect, clean look.
