Quick Go-To Interior Design Concept Tips
Hey y’all. Today we talk interiors. I am going to share an interior design
project I worked on a while ago. The
project description was to come up with an interior design concept for a
3-bedroom apartment and vibrancy was a key word.
Though I love the irreverence of tossing the design
rule book out of the window to achieve unique and different designs, the design
was due in a week so I did not exactly have that luxury. Therefore, I decided to stick to these simple
basic interior design guidelines to achieve some decent piece of work given the
timeline.
The 3-bedroom Apartment Layout
FUNCTION
When I heard the main concept driver had to be
vibrancy the first thing that came to mind is, BIG AND BOLD and thought that
the furniture pieces were really going to help me hit that mark. The thing is though, you might rush to get
that beautiful sculptural piece at the expense of the function intended. Why
lie, such beautiful furniture has an instant visual impact but you probably
want to go for pieces that are functional as well.

MIX TEXTURES
Sometimes your space feels lacking and perhaps you
have used all sorts of colours to try create that vibrant feel. Mixing textures
almost always seems to do the trick, at this point. I tried to achieve this by
incorporating accents such as rugs, throws, and accent cushions for the sofas
in the living room. Then instead of basic paint on one of the walls, I proposed
the use of textured wall master for a rough rustic feel.

LAYER LIGHTING
Rooms with one type of lighting, such as a basic
overhead pendant tend to feel very two-dimensional. The living room features
multiple sources of lighting; the basic overhead pendant, wall sconce on the
walls and movable accent light shades. Small table lamps are especially great
for that added glow. Lighting in a room is a great mood elevator creating the
perfect ambiance.
The Living Room
ACCESSORIZE
Start small, with perhaps a quirky bowl, or a
statement vase. Then go ahead and spruce
up that space with bold statements, updating classic, timeless elements and
making them current and your own.
SCALE
Before you add that dreamy daybed to your cart, or
any other piece of furniture or fitting in extravagance, bear in mind the scale
of the space. This includes knowing the exact size of your space in terms of
length width and height to avoid dwarfing your room with giant furniture. Scale
can make or break your space so paying close attention to the relation between
the size of your room to size of furniture is pretty important.

HIEARCHY
There should always be a hierarchy of elements
within a space to create a cohesive dialogue with well-balanced, thoughtful
dimensions.
BOLD WITH COLOUR
I chose a slightly darker shade of turquoise color
to accentuate the otherwise bare white walls for that wow factor. To further balance that out, I went for sky
blue midtones for a smoother transition on some of the walls leaving others
white.

Looking to get into more detail design with this
project and will be sure to share the finished product. That’s all folks.
